| | Uffington Horse - Ichabod Crane / Cold Frosty Morning | ] | Don't feel like sleeping and was browsing LJs. I was wondering wether to give details about Eurofurence but about everyone already described it at length.
So I'll just follow a very wise friend's idea and simply mention a few relevant aspects from my side.
(You shouldn't click on the lj-cut below, this is the kind of entry that makes LJs despicable.)
- So much to do, so little time
What? Of course it's true of any convention, but I do admit I discovered some of the events a few days after the con itself, while reading accounts. Looks like I spent the whole con wandering the streets, drinking beer, chatting with friends or just doing something else.
And it's pretty cool too, after all.
- One year left to learn German
And, as Raider mentioned at some point, giving us badges with clearly, easily recognizable country flags to indicate which language(s) we speak would be a great idea. Discussing with German people when you can only say 'Käsebrot', 'ein Stück Kuchen', 'mit oder ohne Gurken?' and 'Kartoffelsalat' is kind of challenging — yet probably very fun, I'll have to try.
- Whyfor a driving license?
If I ever get around to actually try learning how to drive, I swear I'll wait a couple decades before trying to drive through Germany — go read balinares' comments about highways. After watching aoi_the_kitsune drive for a few minutes, it definitely looked kind of stressful.
- English Input: 95% English Output: 50%
Being able to actually understand both unclekage and 2_gryphon on stage is a real delight. Next step: manage to get a whole sentence out without stammering once.
- Beginners, leave your ego home...
... so you won't give a fuck when you start drawing something hideous when you've got what looks like an entire army of people who can actually draw wandering around.
- Quest for Efficiency
Never EVER leave anything in your room on the sixth floor that you might need later on ground floor if you can take it with you and carry it around.
- Stuff to remember for next year:
- Prepare business cards to give out at the end of the con and avoid scribbling my ICQ number on the corner of a napkin.
- Print out a 'Warning, you may not want to disturb...' sign and bring duct tape, because it might prove useful.
- Get a bigger bag, preferably with wheels, that can contain about ten or more bottles of Cougar's liquors.
- Ask people's cellphone number on the first day so as not to spend hours looking for them in the whole castle later.
- Bring a laptop or an USB key to share porn.
- Useless — yet fascinating — facts
- Duct-tape is relatively water-resistant when you use it to keep a sink full of water to chill beer bottles.
- Climbing six floors several times a day is not that bad until last morning.
- German Beer isn't too bad, I recommend the 'Erdinger Weissbräu'.
- Truth-or-Dare or I've-Never always get much funnier when played at a furry convention.
- You know a convention was good when it makes you lose points at the Purity Test.
- Meerkats squeak.

* VERY YES about the spoken language flag badges. That's a great idea! Did you submit it to Cheetah?
* Driving is not that bad, really, and I'd MUCH rather drive on a German highway than in Paris. Or Taverny.
* What purity points exactly? :D
* Count your English input at 95% when you can understand Garr. :/ Seriously, that was my most frustrating con so far, language-wise. I can express myself near fluently, but there's NO WAY I can have a chat with some furs, because I don't get them. Rahwr. *curls up and hides his head under his tail*
- Well, for the flags, I think Raider mentioned it to someone at some point — see how sure of it I am? So, well, yeah, maybe it wouldn't hurt to check with Cheetah again, just in case.
- C'mon, driving in Taverny is not dangerous at all, it's just tiresome because of all the dead-ends and one-way lanes — you're still welcome home!
- Maybe I'll tell you someday, privately 0:)
- Okay, maybe closer to 75-80% then. I haven't had the pleasure to discuss with Garr, I'm afraid. I was lucky enough to hang around with furs who either spoke french or a perfect and very understandable english. Tried listening to 2's rants online once back, though, and it does take some getting used to, doesn't it?
*patpats*
Yah, some speak a real clear English, which is a pleasure!
As for telling me in private... Reply to this and then delete the comment at once, I'll get it in email. ;)
I'll message you on Jabber about it ;)
I'm counting on you to pounce me and tell me next week when I'm back online. :)
It's funny how passengers can change color and try to jump from a car when it goes upon 190 Km/h (120Mi/hr) ;p Next year I will offer some paper bags for everyone in the car ^_^
I only make that on a little part of the road, after that I only drive at 150 Km/h when on unlimited when it was possible and I've respected all the others speed limitations.
The thing that is stressful for me in German highways is the fact that often car are really near behind you. And times to times you have all the people in front of you who brake without reason or because of a truck or something else who decide to take overtake. You need to be always carefull to that, especially when some cars are coming extremly rapidly behind you. It's true that generally people drives seriously in Germany, and are more gentle on the road than in France. But there's not one year when driving to Eurofurence we haven't be blocked for long times because of really serious accidents. The top beeing last year with that bridge on fire who has melted on the highway behind it ^_^!
Aww come on Keffy, you drove that Land Rover like a pro. :) It's not everyone that can handle an off road experience like that first time, and you did. Congrats :)
Best regards, Aisheth

Well, it was pretty easy because there weren't any other cars around to crash in ;) | |
